A real decentralized order book

Unlike most cross-chain swap tools, Swaps is built around a real decentralized order book. Users can browse available liquidity, place limit orders, publish their own offers and trade against orders created by other peers. The order book itself is distributed across the peer-to-peer network rather than hosted on a centralized matching engine.

That means Swaps combines the trading experience people expect from an exchange with the architecture of a decentralized protocol.

Native assets, settled on-chain

Orders are propagated peer-to-peer and trades settle natively on-chain. You trade the actual assets on their respective blockchains, not wrapped representations of them.

Private keys never leave your device. There is no centralized exchange, matching server or coordinator controlling the market, and liquidity can be provided by programmatic market makers that anyone can run.

No central backend

Swaps also does not depend on a central backend that can be seized, censored or switched off. The network is carried by the people running it.

Swaps 3.1

Swaps 3.1 makes decentralized cross-chain trading more resilient and dependable, with major improvements to P2P connectivity, order handling, RPC redundancy, swap verification and release security.

Upgrading from an older version

  • Move your funds out

For BTC, ETH, XMR, USDT, USDC, DAI and other supported assets, you may use any reputable external wallet that supports the asset you are transferring.

For Bitcoin Atom (BCA), use the Electrum Atom wallet published by the Bitcoin Atom project on GitHub as the intermediate wallet: https://github.com/bitcoin-atom/electrum/releases/latest

  • Confirm they have arrived

Do not install the update until the funds have been confirmed in the intermediate wallet.

Confirm that your BCA has arrived in Electrum Atom before installing Swaps 3.1.

  • Transfer them back to your new Swaps wallet

Bitcoin Atom (BCA): after the upgrade, transfer it from Electrum Atom to the new BCA address generated by Swaps.

What’s new in Swaps 3.1

  • P2P protocol upgrade: Updated go-waku with a reworked Store protocol for more reliable order history retrieval.
  • Improved peer-to-peer connectivity: The node now maintains a consistent peer identity across restarts, recovers more reliably from stale connections and uses a refreshed, verified bootstrap peer list.
  • RPC failover support: Configure backup RPC nodes for each blockchain. The client automatically switches to a fallback when the primary RPC becomes unavailable.
  • Order book improvements: Your own orders are now detected locally without waiting for them to propagate through the network and return. Partial fills and small amounts are handled correctly, and order restoration has been reworked.
  • Improved swap reliability: More comprehensive on-chain checks run before each swap advances to the next stage, helping swaps complete or resolve cleanly across a wider range of blockchain and network conditions.
  • Clearer network fee reporting: Transaction history now displays network fees as separate entries alongside outgoing and incoming transactions.
  • Ethereum and L2 explorer updates: Ethereum, Arbitrum One and OP Mainnet now use the Etherscan V2 multichain endpoint.
  • Monero improvements: Remote node certificates are now validated using the full Mozilla CA bundle. Self-signed certificates are accepted only when they match an explicitly configured fingerprint. Daemon shutdown is faster and cleaner, and the Windows daemon path has been corrected.
  • Verifiable release signatures: Detached GPG signatures are published for the Windows, macOS and Linux releases and are available directly alongside the downloads on Swaps.org.
  • Updated translations: Included translations have been refreshed. Want Swaps in your language? Submit a translation to the community, or ask us for the translation file containing all interface strings to fill out and contribute.
  • Updated node versions: Bundled and supported node versions have been updated.
  • Linux packaging updates: Linux packaging and distribution have been improved.
  • Bug fixes: Additional stability, compatibility and reliability fixes throughout Swaps.

FAQ

Why do I need to move my coins before upgrading to Swaps 3.1?

Swaps 3.1 uses an updated wallet derivation path, which means it generates different wallet addresses from previous versions.

Which assets can I trade on Swaps?

Swaps supports trading between any pair of supported assets, including BTC, ETH, XMR, USDT, USDC, DAI and other supported ERC-20 tokens.

How does Swaps settle trades between different blockchains?

Under the hood, Swaps uses technologies including HTLCs, adaptor signatures and DLEQ proofs to enable trustless settlement between blockchains with very different capabilities.

Do bootstrap peers control the network?

Bootstrap peers help nodes discover the network, but they do not control it. The order book, trading network and swap infrastructure continue to exist across participating peers.

Can I verify the Swaps 3.1 download?

GPG signatures are available directly alongside each download.
